Dunya acquired its reputation for reliability and service as the operator of second hand tanker tonnage purchased from Exxon in the early 1980’s. The company’s headquarters were moved from London to Istanbul back in 1984 from where it launched its ongoing fleet renewal programme, in the process becoming the first privately owned Turkish shipping company to place a tanker newbuilding order with a foreign yard. The Company went on to order a series of 5 medium range product tankers at Onomichi, Japan, before switching its attention to South Korean yards. Whereas many shipping companies aim to expand the range of services they provide, Dunya continues to focus on that which it believes it does best; the efficient management of oil and chemical tankers. Dunya is committed to providing a safe, secure and healthy working environment both afloat and ashore for all of its employees and for all who have reason to be on or about the vessels under their management. Dunya's goal is that its vessels be operated with zero injuries.
